Trenchless Point Repairs
EWSG performs trenchless “sectional” line repairs, and is a certified installer for the major sectional lining kit providers in the Southeast.
Service Overview
We employ specially trained, dedicated trenchless point repair crews, to ensure proper technique and a quality installation every time.
Problem
Most municipalities in the American Southeast are sitting atop underground sanitary sewer systems that are long past their intended design life. For better or worse, these structural assets rarely fail completely, all at once. Usually, it’s a matter of sections of pipe, manholes, lift stations or other assets slowly deteriorating, to the point where they can no longer serve their original function of conveying wastewater to your treatment plant. Full lining of the entire pipe length is unnecessary and cost-prohibitive, so a solution is needed that addresses only the occasional short section of pipe that needs to be repaired.
Solution
Trenchless repair methods that don’t involve surface disruption through traditional dig-and-replace approaches save you time, money and public goodwill by allowing us to work only where work is needed, and not disturb everyday life going on above ground. This method works well for fixing cracks, tree root intrusions, inflow & infiltration (I/I), and fixing laterals that have one or two relatively small defects. More than that would likely require an entire pipe lining.
Result
Rehabilitated assets return to their full functionality and flow capacity, denying entry to unwanted inflow and infiltration (I/I). This often removes significant points of entry for this bane of every sanitary collection system operator’s existence. The method increases the service life of the pipe for 50 years, provided the pipe has no other structural damage.
Tools and Methods
The affected pipe is first cleaned to remove debris, tree roots and other obstructions. It is then video inspected using a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) to locate the problem area. Defect areas eligible for trenchless point repairs must be shorter than the 4 or 8 ft. sleeves used to line them. These sleeves are made of structural fiberglass impregnated with resin, and are pulled into place inside the pipe using a pneumatic packer. Once the liner is in place, the packer inflates and positions it securely over the defect and allows it to set at ambient temperature. Internal point repair doesn't require curing time or bypass pumping.
