Manhole Rehab
EWSG regularly performs an array of manhole rehabilitation services, including repair, recoating, and when required, replacement.
Service Overview
We offer manhole rehabilitation and replacement to cities, smaller municipalities, factories, plants, quarries, HOAs…anyone with responsibility for maintaining their own sanitary or storm sewer systems.
Problem
Aging manholes have been subjected to years—and sometimes decades—of punishment, with all kinds of debris and grit-laden water coursing down their riser walls, and corrosive chemicals such as H2S gas eating away at their surfaces. At some point, they begin to crumble and leak, contributing to treatment plant overwhelm, and sometimes even total collapse, if they’re not taken care of.
Tools and Methods
We first perform a visual field inspection, followed, if necessary, by a mechanical inspection with a duct system camera, operated by a digital MACP-certified instructor. After inspection proves the need for manhole rehabilitation, our project manager will consult with the client for any preferred restoration specifications concerning cleaning, preparation and application methods and materials.
In general, we spend a day high-pressure blasting the riser’s interior surface with water or sand to remove any loose material that would interfere with final coating adhesion. Any water intrusion will be grouted, and the entire structure dried to avoid potential spalling of the final coating. Depending on the type of surface repair material, we may hand-trowel or begin spraying that same day or the next.
Our technicians can perform both spin-casting and trowel-on coating of calcium aluminate, cementitious and epoxy-type coatings. We match the repair to the specific type of damage and substrate, particular flow characteristics, and the needs of your longterm CMOM plans. We are certified installers and applicators for the major coating manufacturers and suppliers in the Southeast, and all of our technicians are thoroughly safety trained.
