Summary
Elk River Airport needed to resurface their air strip and wanted to make sure all storm water structures that were currently active underneath the strip were in good condition. KRG Utility was awarded cleaning and cctv inspections of the existing 60” storm water system to provide repair recommendations based off of KRG Utility’s experienced knowledge. The two 60” CMP drains were severely corroded and cctv findings found sections of the existing 60” storm water system missing the bottom portion of piping. One pipe had started to cave-in directly under the air strip which was raising immediate concerns for KRG recommendation to provide corrective repairs.
Problem
Upon cctv inspection of the storm water drain system provided by KRG Utility – TV, Elk River Airport had infrastructure failing of their existing 60” Corrugated metal stormwater drains running underneath their active air strip.
Solution
KRG Utility performed cleaning and cctv work to evaluate and access the conditions of the existing 60” storm drain infrastructure for recommendations of the needed repairs and KRG Utility provided the client with a proposal. KRG Utility installed a new 48” HDPE liner inside of the existing 60” storm lines and applied a cellular grout to fill the annular spacing between the existing 60” storm line and newly installed 48” storm drain.
Result
With the completion of this slip lining rehabilitation there is now a 48” smooth wall structural liner installed in both drains. There was a junction box in the middle of one drain that was redesigned to allow for a smooth transition so now debris can’t build up. Any voids that may have been created outside the existing drains had been filled with the cellular concrete. This slip lining rehabilitation project was completed without interference of the air strips daily operations.
