Bypass
Our huge fleet of pumper and Vactor combination trucks allows us to provide the most responsive emergency bypass services in our regions for situations that call for a way to safely and properly handle flows while their usual containers are offline, being repaired, or being set up for repair or cleaning.
Service Overview
Emergency bypass services may be needed in any of several scenarios, in which sanitary, stormwater or potable water flows are unable to occupy their usual components of their collection, distribution or treatment systems.
Problem
Problem situations requiring emergency bypass services may include:
• A sanitary force main break, in which hundreds of thousands of gallons of waste are escaping from a ruptured pipe after an accidental bore-through while other utilities are being installed, a simple case of a pipe aging past its design life, or even an earthquake
• A sanitary lift station goes offline due to a leak or other emergency
• A setup shutdown, in which flows must be diverted to prepare for routine cleaning, repair or replacement of any part of the system
Solution
Our emergency services division will take the call from a municipality, utility or public works department, describing the situation, including flow volumes that must be managed; expected duration of the event until a repair can be made to either stop, divert or contain the flows; and how and where the loads may be disposed of in a legal and environmentally sound way. If logistics are particularly complex, one of our project managers may be dispatched to the site to help asset owners create a sound plan for entry and exit of our vehicles, manage shift changes, and any other decisions that must be made. We work on an annual contract basis for this service.
Result
Our crews—always on 24/7 standby, 365 days a year—will be dispatched at an appropriate coverage level to ensure all flows are captured and safely disposed of, as planned, minimizing or entirely eliminating overflows and any resulting damage, until your team can regain control over the situation.
Tools and Methods
Emergency bypass services generally consist of the dispatch and management of sanitary pumpers and Vactor combination trucks and their highly trained and experienced crews to the emergency site at the earliest possible opportunity (usually two hours or less). Very large or long-duration events may require us to tap our fleet and personnel resources from our other locations throughout the southeastern U.S., but we will provide whatever it takes to get your situation safely under control, while staying environmentally compliant.
