Industrial Cleaning – Annual Contract to Remove Debris for Quarries

The Martin Marrietta rock quarry had a production shutdown due to their conveyor failure in transferring materials from the crusher to the loading area. Martin Marrietta had an immediate need to Vacuum up rocks that were holding up their production process.

EWSG’s Industrial cleaning segment, CLT/IVAC of Charlotte, NC, holds an annual contract to remove unwanted debris from production lines at the Martin Marrietta Quarries in North and South Carolina. Throughout the process of crushing rock, numerous phases occur to classify different gravel sizes. In this process, some supply loads are moved through underground tunnels on conveyor belts from various parts of the quarry.

When the Charlotte, NC location experienced a sudden conveyor belt failure while transferring materials from the crusher to the loading area, it spilled approximately 25 tons of gravel inside Tunnel 3, halting production. Martin Marrietta had an immediate need to remove these rocks that were now holding up their production process.

The customer called CLT/IVAC could assist with this rock removal. With the use of EWSG’s Super Sucker, a support truck and an operations crew, CLT/IVAC laid out approximately 1,250 LF of 6-inch piping, through which they were able to vacuum out the debris so repairs could be made on the quarry’s conveyor system. This emergency response took one day.

After the task was completed, Martin Marrietta has become a consistent customer. We have currently worked at seven additional quarries for them, giving the customer options to keep the quarry up and running during emergency cleanup efforts, rather than shut down production. Best of all, the customer can still use the recovered gravel, keeping it in the asset rather than liability column. This Industrial Cleaning annual contract with Martin Marrietta has branched out to include additional quarry cleaning services for EWSG’s CLT/IVAC section.
